In Bed With Maradona Interview
In Bed With Maradona was nominated for the Best New Football Site award. We asked them talk about the awards, how 2010 had turned out for IBWM, future plans and of course, who they would vote for in the awards. Here’s the interview:
1) You’ve been nominated for Best New Football Site, chosen by both fans and industry experts, how does it feel?
It’s fantastic news, it really is, but its all down to the writers and their consistently excellent work. Take a bow applies, I think!
2) What kind of year has 2010 been for IBWM?
We’ve gone from being a blog that was just going to follow Argentina at the World Cup, to being a website that covers just about anything football related, so we’ve really changed over the course of this year. I had no plans other than to blog regularly, but things have really taken off and I’m tremendously proud of what we’ve all achieved, and hugely pleased to see some great writers get the credit and recognition they deserve.
3) What do you think has been the key factor in your success?
Sorry to bang on with this, but its our writers. We work hard on the editorial side of things, discussing articles and direction, but our job as editors is made easy by having such great material to work with.
4) If you were casting a vote for your any of your fellow nominees, who would it be?
That’s not fair! Michael does some fantastic stuff on Zonal Marking, Chris is a superb writer on Equalizer and we all really enjoy three and in. Fantastic company, can’t believe we are in there, to be honest.
5) What’s next for IBWM?
There are three of us on the editorial team for the site now and we have talked about what we intend to do next. We’ve got quite a few ideas ready to go and things in the pipeline for 2011. Ultimately, we really want to see how far IBWM can go in the coming months and years.
6) Have you seen the Castrol Football Rankings? What do you think about them, and who do you think is the best footballer in the world at the moment?
Yes I have, and it is very impressive! Invaluable when I was looking at players earlier this year. Best player? Well Cristiano Ronaldo has stepped up again and I’m a huge admirer of Iniesta, Villa and Sneijder, but can’t look past Messi. It will only be when he retires that we will realise how special he is.
