Umbro.com Interview
Umbro.com was nominated for the Best Football Gear Site award. We asked them to talk about the awards, how 2010 had turned out for Umbro.com, future plans and of course, who he would vote for in the awards. Here’s the interview:
1) You’ve been nominated for Best Football Gear Site, chosen by both fans and industry experts, how does it feel?
It feels great! We’ve put a lot of work into the site and all our online activity this year, so to be recognised for doing so is fantastic.
2) What kind of year has 2010 been for Umbro.com?
It’s been busy, and we’re really pleased with how it’s all gone. The website has gone from strength to strength, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve it along with all our digital sites. In 2010 we’ve launched the England away shirt in Paris, had our great World Champions Collection pictures seen around the world, and constantly come up with some great footballing puns in our Twitter competition!
3) What do you think has been the key factor in your success?
I think the best thing is the way we bring the world of Umbro to life, whether it’s the music we’re listening to, the stories behind our shirts or simply showing our gear in the best way possible. Also, we’re always willing to try new things out to see if people like them.
4) If you were casting a vote for your any of your fellow nominees, who would it be?
That’s a tough one, as there’s plenty of people nominated that we like, so we don’t want to pick just one! We’d have to say that we always enjoy the Football Ramble podcast, and Who Ate All The Pies is a great site as well.
5) What’s next for Umbro.com?
We’ve got plenty of stuff planned for 2011, and we’ve just revealed our new Umbro Tee Shop offering some fantastic, limited edition tee shirts. We’ll also have plenty of brand new items coming out in the next 12 months…
6) Have you seen the Castrol Football Rankings? What do you think about them, and who do you think is the best footballer in the world at the moment?
We have seen them, and they’re obviously a good thing for fans, coaches, managers and everyone involved in football. However, they can’t measure whether a player is going to get homesick, get caught cheating on his missus or demand a better contract, so they’re not perfect! It’s tough to pick the best footballer in the world, because it’s so subjective, my heart says that it’s Jon ‘The Beast’ Parkin at Preston North End, but my head says that it’s one of the Barca trio – Messi, Xavi or Iniesta.
